When shopping for a flag, one important detail is whether the design is single-sided or double-sided.
Single-Sided Flags
A single-sided flag is printed primarily on one side.
The design can usually still be seen from the reverse side, but it may appear mirrored or lighter depending on the material and printing method.
Single-sided flags are often:
- Lighter
- More affordable
- Well suited for many everyday displays
Double-Sided Flags
A double-sided flag is designed so the artwork reads correctly from both sides.
These flags are typically constructed with separate printed sides and may include an inner layer.
Double-sided flags are a good choice when:
- The design includes text
- You want the image to read correctly from both directions
- Appearance from both sides matters
Which Should I Choose?
For a standard American flag, sidedness may matter less because the design is recognizable from either direction.
For custom flags, business logos, schools, names, or text-heavy designs, a double-sided flag is usually the better choice if you want both sides to read correctly.
Consider the Weight
Double-sided flags are typically heavier than single-sided flags because of their additional layers.
That can matter on smaller poles, vehicle setups, and portable displays, so always make sure your pole or mounting system is appropriate for the flag you choose.
